About the role
The department of Urology is a tertiary referral centre, covering an extended population of 1.3million people and a local population of approximately 650,000. The urology department is located at Castle Hill Hospital within a well-resourced, dedicated unit. Ward 15 has 34 beds, and a urology day services facility is located next door. Flexible cystoscopy and urodymamics are performed here, along with specialist nursing clinics. In addition, there is an on-site fixed lithotripter which is housed within this unit. Ward 12 next door (urology ambulatory) provides a dedicated facility for the assessment of emergencies and post-operative assessment as well as a TWOC clinic. The department has a dedicated inpatient urology theatre and robotic surgery is performed within a purpose-built robotic facility at Castle Hill which houses two Da Vinci Xi platforms. This facility is shared with other specialities. Currently there are 14 inpatient urology lists and 10 robotic lists within the working week. There is a newly built day surgery centre on site at Castle Hill, where the urology services perform 8 lists per week. In addition, the department is staffed by 6 middle grades (specialty registrars and clinical fellows), along with 9 specialist nurses, 1 advanced practitioner and 2 surgical care practitioners. There are also 6 ST1/2, F1/F2 doctors
