Consultant in Emergency Medicine with special interest in Frailty

This post is for a Consultant in Emergency Medicine with Special Interest in Frailty. This is a permanent post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council at the time of appointment. Applicants must be eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment. Applicantsmust have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine. (The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview). Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration as above (CESR). (CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation upon successful application).

The job plan is for 10 PAs. This is split into 2.5 SPA and 7.5 DCC. Successful candidate will be expected to work one late shift until midnight each week and two full day shifts which with incorporate SPA time. The weekend rota is worked as a 1 in 6 frequency. Shift pattern varies for this but includes 08- 1400, 1200-1800 and a late shift 1800-midnight which includes non-resident on-call. The rota works on an annualized basis with room for flexibility within the job plan. There is latitude regarding your other weekday shifts to suit both any other commitments you may have and departmental needs. The postholder will provide senior clinical leadership in the management of older people living with frailty across services. This includes leading the multidisciplinary team within the Frailty Ambulatory / Same Day Emergency Care unit, working closely with junior doctors, frailty practitioners, and therapists to deliver frailty centred holistic care. The consultant may be rostered to be responsible for the medical leadership of the Acute Frailty Unit ward, or participate in Virtual Ward multidisciplinary team meetings, and provide expert support to the Advanced Clinical Practitioner team within the Emergency Department. The role is integral to ensuring seamless, high-quality care across the frailty pathway, supporting admission avoidance and early discharge. All consultants share responsibility for clinical and administrative work in the department.
